NEW HANOVER CTY - Recent enhancements to the county's reverse notification system offers residents of New Hanover County added benefits.
Updates on hazardous spills to evacuations are now available through mobile phones, text/SMS messages and email under a new system announced Monday.
The New Hanover County Notification System allows residents to register their mobile phones, unlisted telephones, VoIP phones and email addresses for emergencies anywhere in New Hanover County. In addition to emergency notifications, subscribers also have the ability to opt-in to non-emergency community alerts.
The new system, also utilized by Wilmington, Wrightsville Beach, Carolina Beach and Kure Beach, is an expansion of the existing notification system, which uses technology to call people on landlines.
The New Hanover County Notification system is part of the County's overall emergency operation plan, which also includes the County's website, social media tools, and more traditional notification methods, like partnerships with local media.
Those who live, work, or go to school in New Hanover County may register by going to https://nhcgov.onthealert.com
People can sign up for alerts including evacuations, missing persons, weather emergencies, water restrictions and boil water notices, missing persons, and special events such as community/town hall meetings and traffic issues.
