Sheriff Deputy Shot In Creekwood Area: Shooter Identified

Update: Suspect wanted for yesterday’s shooting

Wanted for 2 counts Attempted 1st Degree Murder
Wanted for 2 counts Assault with a deadly weapon on Government Official

New Hanover County Sheriff’s Detective Michael Spencer was shot today while conducting an investigation. Spencer along with other officers were observing a vehicle occupied by two males. The vehicle entered the Creekwood Housing Development where the two males exited the vehicle. Spencer along with another officer exited their vehicle and attempted to speak with the two males. Once approached by the detectives the passenger of the vehicle began shooting at the officers. Spencer was hit and taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A multi-agency search began for the passenger of the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle was taken into custody, interviewed and released without charges. Detective Spencer has come out of surgery successfully and is expected to recover. The New Hanover County Sheriff’s will continue our search for the suspect.
