CAROLINA BEACH - The Carolina Beach Fire Department, Kure Beach Fire Department and New Hanover County Fire responded to a house fire on Annie Drive in Carolina Beach last Wednesday night, November 6th at around 10:34PM.
Carolina Beach Fire Chief Alan Griffin said it was a single-family home with a downstairs apartment. He said the tenant said they were sleeping and the neighbors came over to alert them the house was on fire.
Chief Griffin said the tenant was in the process of moving out and it appeared the fire started on a couch under the back deck.
He said the fire spread up the rear outside wall and into the attic vents.
Chief Griffin said it was windy that night and there was substantial damage to the structure and would likely be considered a total loss.
Fire crews were on scene until after 3AM.
Arson investigators investigated the scene the following morning.
