CAROLINA BEACH - The Carolina Beach Fire Department responded to a house fire at 3:45am Saturday morning in the 400 block of Oceana Way. No one was at home when the fire started. No firefighters were injured. Officials are still investigating the cause of the fire that destroyed the structure and caused minor damage to adjacent structures including melted siding and broken windows.
Firefighters wrapped up at around 10:30am.
Fire Chief Alan Griffin said the structure was fully involved with flames coming out of the roof top when firefighters arrived. He said the first mission was to get fire hoses on the adjacent structures to stop the fire from spreading to those homes. He said, "Strong winds were working against us" and, "The siding on the adjacent house was smoking and we heard windows starting to break."
