NEW HANOVER CTY - Community conversations on gang violence in Wilmington continue on January 13 with New Hanover County hosting Part 4: A Behavioral Health Focus on School-Aged Youth. The meeting will be held 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the New Hanover County Main Library, 201 Chestnut Street in downtown Wilmington.
The focus of this discussion will be mental health and behavioral issues of school-aged children that can lead to, or prevent, gang/gun violence, as well as the resources needed to help at-risk children.
The meeting will include a panel discussion with New Hanover County School’s Lead Social Worker and Counselor, Lisa Burriss, NHC School Resource Officer Commander and Juvenile Crime Prevention Chair, Lt. Novella Frieslander, NHC Community Justice Services Program Coordinator, Teresa Huffman, Communities in Schools Cape Fear Program Director Marrio Jeter, and NHC Health Department’s School Based Clinical Supervisor, Donna Lynn Pleasants.
