Christmas Tree Disposal For Beach Towns And New Hanover County

By WILLARD KILLOUGH III
Managing Editor

CAROLINA BEACH – You bought a live Christmas Tree this season and now the question is, what do I do with this dead tree? Don't fret, New Hanover County offers free recycling locations and the Towns of Carolina Beach, Kure Beach and Wrightsville Beach plan to pick them up.
New Hanover County:
Free Christmas tree recycling began the day after the Christmas holiday for County residents. The New Hanover County Environmental Management department asks residents living in the unincorporated areas to remove all decorations and lights before taking their trees to one of three locations this year.
Residents may begin dropping off their used Christmas trees, during daylight hours, starting Dec. 26 at:
- Myrtle Grove Middle School, 901 Piner Rd.
- Ogden Park (near the baseball fields), 225 Ogden Park Drive
- New Hanover County Landfill, 5210 US Highway 421 North
This program will continue through the month of January with the last pickup being Tuesday, Feb. 4.
Christmas Tree recycling is funded and coordinated by New Hanover County Environmental Management, with support from the City of Wilmington's Sanitation department.
Carolina Beach: Please remove all decorations and stands, and place the tree by the road at the curb in front of your home. There is no need to call to request a pickup. Staff will be collecting the trees throughout the month of January. There is no charge. Note: This is for live Christmas trees only, not artificial ones. Call 458-2983 for more info.
Kure Beach:  During the first two weeks of January, Public Works will be picking up old Christmas trees. Place your discarded trees on the edge of your property for pickup from January 2 to January 16. This is a FREE PICKUP for Christmas trees, ONLY. Any other trash left on your property line for pickup will incur the usual trash pickup fee. Call Public Works at 910-458-5816, if you have any questions.
Wrightsville Beach: Christmas trees will be collected Tuesday - Thursday until January 31st. Set them by the curb.
