KURE BEACH - The Town's Stormwater and Environmental Committee has resheduled its March meeting. It will be held at 6:30 pm on Monday, March 17th, at the Kure Beach Community Center in order to accommodate as many people as possible to hear their two guest speakers.
Director of the New Hanover Soil and Water District, Dru Harrison, will talk about various ways that rain water can be collected, with an emphasis on smaller projects applicable to homeowners. She will also talk about the ability of soil and water district staff to help homeowners design a "capture" system and put the water to good use. Melanie Doyle from the NC Aquarium at Fort Fisher, a horticulturalist and an expert in the use of native plants, will talk more about capturing rain water and how she uses it to irrigate all of the plants and gardens at the aquarium.
If you are looking for ways to divert rain water from going into your storm sewers or from ponding in your yard, or you are interested in learning more about irrigating your landscape and other ways to use rain water to help you cut down on your water usage (and perhaps save you money on your water bill), this is the meeting for you!
