County To Discuss Beach Nourishment Funding: New Requirement Costly For County

The New Hanover County Board of Commissioners will discuss beach nourishment funding at their September 4th, meeting. The Army Corp of Engineers is requiring the County to sign an agreement to be 100 percent responsible for cost overruns and any liabilities incurred with the project. Historically, the federal, state, and local governments share in unanticipated costs.

Carolina Beach Council Adopts Smoking Ban; Delays Enforcement Until State Legislature Meets In 2013

Carolina Beach Town Manager Tim Owens advises the Town Council on a proposed beachfront smoking ban. The Town Attorney advised the Council they have no authority to enact such a ban. The Council approved adopting the smoking ban pending consideration for approval next year by the State General Assembly.


Carolina Beach Council Exempts Patriotic Flags From Sign Ordinance

The Carolina Beach Town Council voted August 14, to exempt patriotic flags from the Town's sign regulations. The ordinance was amended earlier this year tightening up restrictions on the size and number of flags that could be displayed.
