CAROLINA BEACH - Edward F. Koch, 86, of Carolina Beach, NC passed away Monday, April 23, 2012 at his home.
Born May 15, 1925 in Logan, WV, he earned a BS in PreMed from West VA University. He also earned a BSME Industrial Engineering from WVU and was a Computer Science Graduate of USC Aiken. He was a member of Tau Beta Pi, Pi Tau Epsilon and Alpha Pi Mu.
Edward worked as a Senior Industrial Engineer for 19 years at the Savannah River Plant in Aiken, SC. He also spent 6 years as an independent contractor in the Middle East. Ed and his family settled in Hafir Al Batin, Saudi Arabia where the King Khalids City was being constructed in a desert area of the kingdom. Ed’s work then took his family to Afsin, Turkey where a power plant was being built, and lastly to Kuwait to establish a power plant. Later, Ed was employed in Washington D.C by VOA, the Dept. of Energy, and Dynamic Research Corp. In 1999, he retired and moved to Carolina Beach where he became an active member of Katie B. Hines, HELP, and NARF.
Ed is survived by his wife, Margaret; three sons, Robert of Boston, Randy of Atlanta, and Rick of Wilmington; a daughter, Mary Lynne Hipkins of Brunswick; and 11 grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held 3:00 p.m. Friday, April 27, 2012 at the Katie B. Hines Senior Center, 308 Cape Fear Blvd, Carolina Beach with Rev. Chuck Love officiating.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the HELP Center, or Katie B. Hines Senior Center.
