On Saturday, August 4th, Starling Marine hosts their annual Summer Celebration Fishing Tournament fundraiser for the family of Heather Pope Foster, who recently lost her battle with Stage IV Lung Cancer. When Heather was 23 weeks pregnant in January of this year, she learned that she was in an advanced stage of this fierce disease. She started chemotherapy immediately, but this did not improve her condition. So on February 19, Elizabeth Rae was welcomed into the world weighing only 2Ibs. 14 oz. Heather started intense radiation therapy immediately after Elizabeth was born, but she could not get ahead of the disease.
The Foster family’s strong faith has provided them with enormous strength and courage during this difficult time. With the support of the community and sponsors, The Starling Marine Summer Celebration Fishing Tournament will raise funds to help with Heather’s medical bills and other expenses and will commemorate the life of an inspirational woman.
Interested adults and children are encouraged to fish the tournament or just come for the dinner and awards. To participate, simply register online or stop by Starling Marine’s 2035 Eastwood Road, Wilmington location. The registration donation is $125 per boat, and includes dinner for up to 4 adults, two event t-shirts and a “Captain's Bag” with sponsor give-aways. Extra dinner tickets are available for a $20 adult donation, $10 for children age 10 and under, or a Family 4-Pack for $50. Captain’s bags will be ready for pickup at Starling Marine starting Friday, August 3rd. The weigh-in for the one-day event will take place on Saturday, August 4th from 12 to 3 at the Starling Marine dock at Crocker’s Landing on Airlie Road. A silent auction will be held during the awards dinner following the close of the scales at Starling’s Eastwood Road Showroom.
