Hook, Line and Sinker: Local Fishing Report and Photos for Nov. 27th, 2013

11/24/13 - Not so long ago I was fishing with two guys, and as one of them put it, “I think the fish are on vacation today”.  In other words, we were not catching a lot.  Well, Jimmy called his wife to make plans for dinner that night.  I could hear both sides of their conversation, and the following is almost word for word:  Jim- Hey Honey, how ‘bout running to the store and pick up some crab legs for tonight.  Her-  How many do we need?   Jim-  Maybe 4 or 5 pounds.  Oh, and we’ll have some oysters too.  I’ll take care of that.  Her-  Oyster Stew?  I don’t like oyster stew.  Jim- No… I said Oysters too.  Her-   I heard what you said, and I said I don’t like Oyster Stew.  Jim- (getting louder)   I know you don’t like Oyster Stew…  I said we’ll have some Oysters Too !   They continued to go back and forth that way for a while, and I don’t know if she ever did really understand what he meant, or if maybe that’s just the way they communicate.  Husbands and wives sometimes have their special language you know. I’ve been busy this week with “other stuff” and didn’t get to fish much. But I did check with the pier and they were still picking up some nice Whiting. (Virginia Mullet,  Sea Mullet, Kingfish,  whatever you choose to call them)  And surf fishing has continued to be outstanding. One of my good neighbors (All my neighbors are good neighbors) took his boat out the inlet and headed South a ways to anchor up about a pier’s length from the beach.  ‘Said he had to try three spots before he hit. Then it was just easy fishing, bringing in nice Whiting every cast.  Bottom fishing with shrimp.  Can’t beat that.
As of this morning the winds are about 20+, with a 37 degree temp.  Still, at the risk of repeating myself, Just enjoy the weather, whatever it is.  Stay safe.  Fish when you can.
Wishing you the best,
Capt Mike Harrison
