• 3/27 – Ashley 10 New Hanover 9 – Tuesday night, 3/27, the Boys' Lacrosse team squeaked out a 10 - 9 overtime win over an aggressive New Hanover HS team. The Eagles scored first and continued to lead through most of the game. The score at the end of the 3rd quarter was 7 - 2. Unfortunately, Ashley suffered a major let down in the 4th quarter allowing a tenacious Wildcat team to claw their way back into the contest. With just over 2 minutes to go, NHHS tied the game at 8 and, with little more than a minute to go they took their first lead at 9 - 8. Fortunately, Cameron Batson was able to score the equalizer with less than a second left in regulation.
Both teams had several possessions and opportunities to score in the first three minutes of overtime, when Brandon Tranchon took a pass from goalie Zac Tilley deep in Ashley territory. Brandon executed a nifty "give and go" clear with defenseman Mike O'Neil, continuing into the offensive side of the field where he was able to blow by his defender and rip a shot into the net for the winning score.
Owen Finnegan led all scorers with 1 goal and 3 assists, while both Mike Magness (3 goals) and Cameron Batson (1 goal; 2 assists) tallied 3 points. Zac Tilley made 14 saves in the cage.
