Eagles Boys win 4th Straight Title at the County Track & Field Championships

BOYS - The Boys Track team achieved their 4th County Championship in a row last night with a team score of 99 points. Hoggard was 2nd with 71 points, Hoggard had 70 and New Hanover had 29.
In the Shot Put Ryan Hayes placed 4th with a mark of 40'6".  In the Discus Alex Banozi placed 4th with a throw of 116'5".  In the Triple Jump Justin Savion placed 2nd with a jump of 41'9.5" and Spencer Gregory placed 5th with a mark of 32'11".  The High jump has Storm Schultz place 2nd at 6'0" and Justin Savion on his 3rd day of high jump place 3rd with a 5'10"and Ben Jackson placed 5th at 5’6”. The Pole Vault saw Zack Maynard at 4th place with a jump of 10'6". In the 110m hurdles Spencer Gregory placed 5th with a time of 18.88.  In the 300m hurdles the eagles took the top 3 spots with 3 personal bests.  Spencer Gregory placed 1st with a 44.25.  Spencer Dawkins placed 2nd at 45.69, and Grayson Smith placed 3rd at 47.06. The 200m dash had 3 Eagles in the top 5. Gabe Batson placed 2nd with a 22.54, Brian Carn placed 4th at 23.57, and Loch McDonald placed 5th with a 23.68.  The 400m dash had Logan Babinski in 1st with a 52.26 and Shawn Baker found the 3rd place spot with a 53.88.
In the 800m dash the Eagles placed 2nd-5th.  Cole Carter placed 2nd with a 2:01, David Roberts with a 2:02, Joe Harty with a 2:02, and Brian Lancaster at 2:04.  The top 3 times we had qualified for the regional meet at the end of the season.  The 1600 had an identical placing order with different runners.  Brian Lancaster placed 2nd with a 4:33 (Regional Qualifying Time), Austin Davis placed 3rd at 4:36, Brian Veals placed 4th at 4:48, and Rylee Smith placed 5th at 4:51.  Once again the 3200m had a finish of 2-5.  Brian Veals tied the school record getting 2nd with a 10:23, Brian Lancaster placed 3rd at 10:26, Will Mayo placed 4th at 10:33, and Samual Darakjy was 5th at 10:35.
In the Relays the 4X800m relay placed 1st at 8:26 (1 second off qualifying for Regionals), 4X200 placed 2nd at 1:31, 4X100 placed 3rd at 44.94, and the 4X400 placed 1st at 3:37. This was a strong team effort with a huge number of personal bests.  Congratulations go out to this men's team.  Our seniors have never lost this meet, which is a huge accomplishment.
GIRLS - In the Discus April Powers decided to rewrite the school record with a 100'11" placing 1st.  Rebecca Sherril placed 5th in a tough field with a throw of 74'8".  In the Shot Put Rebecca Sherrill placed 2nd with a throw of 28'6.5" and April Powers placed 3rd with a 27'1". In the Pole Vault Savanna Knight finished 3rd with a jump of 7'0". In the Long Jump Olessea Gethers placed 5th with a mark of 14'2.5".  In the triple jump Olessea Gethers placed 4th with a mark of 29'0".  In the 400m dash Katie Carter placed 4th with a run of 1:11.06. In the 800m dash Christine Mariskanish placed 5th with a time of 2:54.71.  She also took 5th in the 1600m run with a time of 6:14.  In the Relays the 4X800m relay placed 2nd, The 4 X200m relay placed 3rd. Despite injuries the girls team had some notable performances and continue to work in the right direction.  A number of our girls posted personal bests in their events.
