Ashley Varsity Soccer Team kicks off Conference Play with wins over New Bern and Greenville Rose

Photos from the Eagles 2-0 win against New Bern this past Tuesday.

• 9/25 - Eagles 2 New Bern 0 - Great Start in Conference Play - The Eagles began the conference quest for a title with a shutout victory over New Bern. The Eagles' attack was able to muster 6 first half shots with 2 of them finding their way to the back of the net. Durwin Hamilton found the net on a Sean Baker assist while Tony Mack placed his in goal from a Myles Strickland pass. The most impressive part of the match was our stellar defense allowing only one shot on goal that was gobbled up by keeper Justin Savinon. The back four: Captain Gary O'Neill, Captain Victor Sosa, Thomas Schimpf, Britton Deets (left with a bloody nose)substituted with Trey Morton and then Michael Hayes gave the Bears very few opportunities to advance. It was a great start in what could prove to be a wonderful season in the Mideastern Conference. Together we stand strong!
The varsity is now 7-2-1 overall and 1-0 in the Mideastern Conference.
The JV team won their 8th game by a score of 3-2 making their record 8-1 overall and 1-0 in conference.
• 9/27 - Eagles 3 Greenville Rose 0 OT - Better Late Than Never - OT Victory - The Eagles controlled the game from the start but were unable to find the back of the net. We created numerous scoring opportunities including 2 open goals with the ball inside the six yard box and missed. The score should have been 3-0 in the first 10 minutes of the game but we decided to be polite host to let Rose stay in the game. The team ended up taking 31 shots 11 on frame the other 20 somewhere in the stratosphere. It was not until midway through the first overtime period when Durwin Hamilton found the back of the net. He was followed up by Tony Mack with a couple minutes left in that period. Daniel Harris finished our scoring with a second overtime period goal making the final score 3-0. This is defense's second straight shutout with Justin Savinon in goal with the support of defenders with starters: Gary O'Neill, Victor Sosa, Thomas Schimpf, & Britton Deets - substitutes: Dean Morton, Michael Hayes, and Jon Lanier also came in to secure the shutout. These gentlemen only allowed Rose to take 4 shots. This puts us in first place in the Mideastern conference with a 2-0 record and an overall record 8-2-1.
The JV is also 2-0 in conference play with a 9-0 victory over Rose yesterday bringing there overall record to 9-1.
