This is 1 of the harder courses in the conference to run thru with several tight turns, stretches with roots, and a narrow trail in some areas of the course. Due to this several Coach’s had their kids jogging.
The Eagles had 7 of their top 10 not even in the race since they were competing in the Greater American XC Festival in Cary on Saturday. This was very hard for the Varsity boys to watch, but know it is important to go into Saturday with fresh legs to try and better there State Ranking currently at 25th Place. However not jogging was New Hanover’s George Webb who broke the course record with a 17:08 despite running off course for about 20 seconds. George was followed by 2 more Wild Cats: Gunar Swartzlander 17:50, and Tristen Geever 17:51, Ashley’s Brandon Nix set a personal best time of 18:00. • 9/29 – Eagles Varsity Boys Cross Country compete with some of the Nation’s Best at the Greater American XC Festival – The Screaming Eagles Cross Country Team were looking to improve upon their North Carolina High School Rankings at the Greater American XC Festival held at Cary’s WakeMedd Soccer Complex this past Saturday.
While the Boy’s did see some PR’s their team rank of 25th Place stayed the same. They are just a few points away from breaking into the top 20. There were 4 races in this Meet for Varsity Teams. This Meet Annual draws National Ranked teams and this season was no exception. In the Championship race there were 31 Teams, the fastest had a average time for their 5 fastest runner’s at 15:24 and the 31st Team was 16:41.
The Eagles were in the 2nd hardest Race of the day and had perhaps the worse conditions of all the Varsity Races. While the rain held off for the Eagles they still had to contend with a course that was pretty muddy from the 12 races held before theirs. That didn’t stop team captain Brien Lancaster from running his personal best time of 16:34 moving his Conference Ranking up to 1st Place 2 weeks away from the Conference Meet. Brien was followed closely in the race by teammate Stephen Wilson until a collision sent Stephen down to the ground. He was able to still get up and finish close to his PR with a time of 17:18 in 87th Place. Will mayo finished 3rd for the Eagles with a time of 17:26, Bryan Veals was 4th at 17:29, Joesph Harty was 5th 17:42, Daniel Lancaster was 6th at 18:05 and David Fletchner was 7th for the Eagles with a time of 19:49.
All the Eagles will be competing in a 3-School Meet against Greenville Rose and Laney at Boyd Lee Park in Winterville this Thursday, followed by the County Championships the following Thursday at Hugh McRae Park and The Conference Championships being held at Boyd Lee Park October 18th.
