Ashley Boy’s Varsity Basketball fall to Clayton in the 2nd Round of the State Playoffs

NCHSAA 4A State Tournament
• 2/27 – Ashley 49 Clayton 61 – The Eagles was able to stay close with Clayton High School in the 2nd Round of the State Playoffs. Clayton ranked 23rd in the State was able to extend a 3-point lead late in the 2nd quarter with a 7-0 run forcing the Eagles to take a timeout. The Eagles were able to pick it up closing out the last 3:48 8-4 to get to within 6-points of Clayton.
Eagles were lead at the break by Camidge with 11, TJ Williams with 4, Trey Eller with 4, and Tony Mack with 3. After halftime the Eagles were able to stay close to Clayton and even took a 1-point lead at 34-33 halfway through the 3rd quarter. The Comets were able to regain there 7-point lead and with 5:00 left in the game they were able to outscore the Eagles 16-11 to take the win 61-49. The Eagles had a tremendous season finishing up with a 17-9 Record Overall and got their 1st win in the State Tournament in School history.
With such a good coaching staff in place you will probably see them winning many more games in the State Playoffs. Coach McSwain has done a tremendous job taking over the Eagles Varsity Boys Basketball team turning them into a threat in the Mid-Eastern Conference and in the State Play-offs.
