Girl’s take 2nd Place for the 1st Time in School History while the Boy’s won their 4th Straight Conference Championship
Ashley HIgh School Sophomore Jamie Druham winning the 200 Meter Dash. Jamie also won the 100 Meter Dash, Long Jump and took 2nd Place in the triple jump.
The Mid-Eastern Conference Championships was hosted by Ashley High School this past Wednesday at Hoggard High School. The Girl’s team was in search of their 1st Ever Conference Title while the boys were in search of their 4th straight. While the boys were favored to win the Meet the girls with a limited Roster were going to be much closer of a battle.
BOYS - The Boy’s set the tone after their 1st race of the day the 4x800 meter relay in which Ashley broke their School Record with a time of 8:11.1 to take 1st Place by well over 100 meters. From there the boys never lost the lead and after the final events came in: 300 Hurdles, 800 Meter Run, 3,200 Meter Run, 4x4, and the Pole Vault the Eagles went from just barely ahead of New Hanover to a 40 point win. The Majority of the points came from the Eagles Field Events with 74 total, but in the Distance Events (800, mile and 2 mile) the Eagles scored 57 points comared to the rest of the conference with a total of 60 points in the same events. The other big events for the Eagles were the Hurdles, but thats no surprise with 1 of the best Hurdle Coach’s in the State. FInal Score was Ashley 201, New Hanover 161, Hoggard 111, New Bern 75, Laney 75, and Greenville Rose 51. The Boys that score in the top 8 in there events were: 400 Meter Dash: 2nd David Roberts 51.3, 5th Rylee Smith 53.3, 6th Zan Richardson 53.8; 800 Meter Run: 2nd Joesph Harty 2:02.9, 3rd David Roberts 2:05, 5th Stephen Wilson 2:07.4, and 6th Rylee Smith 2:08.1; 1,600 Meter Run: 1st Place Brien Lancaster 4:29.4, 4th Daniel Lancaster 4:41.2, 6th Stephen Wilson 4:48.8, and 7th David Fletchner 4:51.9; 3,200 Meter Run: 2nd Will Mayo 10:11.8, 4th Brien Lancaster 10:25.6, 7th Daniel Lancaster 10:45.5, and 8th Stephen Wilson 10:59.2; 110 Hurdles: 1st Dominque Keys 15.4 and 8th Spencer Gregory 18.8; 300 Hurdles: 1st Dominque Keys 40.5, 5th Sean Baker 44.4, 7th Calvin Gregory 45.9, 8th Spencer Gregory 46.6; 4x100 Relay Ashley 3rd 47.8; 4x200 Relay Ashley 6th 1:34; 4x400 Relay Ashley 2nd 3:33.8; 4x800 Relay Ashley 1st 8:11.1; High Jump: 4th Will James 5’10”, 5th Calvin Gregory 5’10”, 7th Michael Hayes 5’8”; Long Jump: 8th Calvin Gregory 18’7.25”; Triple Jump: 3rd Calvin Gregory 41’4”; Discus: 2nd Nick Greyno 142’3”, 3rd Alex Banozi 138’9”, 4th Zack Williams 135’1”, and 8th John Suggs 121’1”; Shot Put: 3rd Russell Corbett 44’5”, 5th Nick Greyno 43’7”, and 8th Alex Banozi 40’2”; Pole Vault: 1st Bruce Kopka 11’6”, 3rd Jesse Jewel 10’6”, 4th Zack Maynard 9’6”, 5th Daniel Suggs 9’.
GIRLS - The girls team came away from the conference championship with their highest finish in school history. They scored 2nd with 132.5 points. Julia Boudreu placed 2nd in the 1600m with a time of 5:31. She also finished 5th with a time of 12:48 in the 3200. In the 800m dash Julia again came away with points placing 2nd overall at a time of 2:32.7 and Lindsey Williams finished 7th with a time of 2:44.4. In the 100m hurdles Elizabeth Troutwine finished 6th with a time of 18.8 and Chyna Cotton finished 8th with a 20.4. Chyna Cotton also placed 8th in the 300m hurdles with a time of 54.00. Jamie Durham placed 1st in the long Jump with a 18'00 and 2nd in the triple jump at 36'1" and a new school record.
The girls 4 X 100m relay placed 4th with a time of 57.00 and the girls 4 X 200m relay finished 3rd at 1:53.10. The 4 X400m relay finished 4th at 4:36 and the 4 X 800m relay finished 3rd at 10:32.47. In the 100m dash Jamie Durham finished 1st with a time of 12.30 and Destiny Godfrey finished 5th at 13.02. In the 200m dash Jamie Durham finished 1st with a time of 25.7 and Destiny Godfrey finished 6th at 27.5. In the 400m Destiny Godfrey finished 1st at 1:02.3 and Charlotte Pearsal was 4th at 1:02.9. In the Discus Kali Rich was 4th at 74-3 and in the Shot she was 5th at 27-9. In the pole Vault Heather Keck was 2nd ate 7-0 and Savanna knight finished 3rd at 7-0.
Both Teams will be competing in the NCHSAA 4A East Regional Championships this Saturday at Pinecrest High School starting at 10:30AM.
