The Screaming Eagles got off to a great start led by several key defensive stops, in all they recovered fumbles on the 1st 4 Hoke possessions. After Hoke drove deep into the Eagles territory Anthony Andrews got a strip and recovered. On Hoke next possession the Eagles forced a fumble on a punt which set up their 1st score on a 17-yard run by Senior Charles Dent.
Dent would score a few minutes later after another fumble put the Eagles in scoring position, giving them a 14-0 led. Play resumed for about 5 more minutes then when the Eagles were facing 4th down with minutes left in the 1st half lightning stopped play and about 2 hours later they postponed the game until Saturday.
The 2nd half of the game couldn’t have asked for better conditions. The 2nd half ended with no one scoring leaving the game at 14-0 at halftime.
After halftime Hoke was able to force a fumble on the Eagles which lead to their 1st touchdown of the game. The rest of the game Ashley’s defense stepped up holding off ever attempt Hoke had to score, including a interception to end the game.
The Eagles are 1-0 Overall, Ashley will be on the road for 2 weeks in a row at Swansboro next Friday night followed by Fairmont on September 6th.
