The Screaming Eagles Varsity Football team soared to 2-2 on the Regular Season after a impressive win over White Oak in front of a near sell out crowd at Ashley High School this past Friday Night under the lights. The Eagles got on the scoreboard 1st with a 28-yard touchdown pass from Ashley quarterback Chris Kane to wide receiver Delmus Russ. However White Oak was able to get a long drive on the next series putting them on the board with 7-points.
The Eagles then retook the lead after Kane’s pitch to Anthony Andrews who scored from about 15-yards out. White Oak came right back with another long touchdown evening up the score again at 14-14. The Eagles were able to break a 14-14 tie with seconds left in the 1st half after Kane connected on a long pass to Stephen Russell who got around White Oak’s defense for a 44-yard touchdown, giving Ashley the lead 21-14.
After halftime the scoreboard got quiet until the Eagles ended a long drive with a 25-yard field goal giving them a 10-point lead 24-14. White Oak then had a 80-yard touchdown run, but it got called back because of a block in the back field.
White Oak started the 4th quarter with a 32 yard field goal bringing them to within a touchdown 24-17. The Eagles answer back after a long drive down the field Jesse Jewel scores from 7-yards out with 8:27 to play in the game.
White Oak wasn’t down yet though scoring again on a 14 yard touchdown run bringing them back to within a touchdown with 5:30 left in the game. Then the unthinkable happened and the Eagles fumbled on the 47-yard line with 4:30 left in the game. However thanks to some great defense on part of Andre Stukes who broke up a pass on 4th and 6 the Eagles were able to run down the clock and stay undefeated at home so far this season.
The Eagles will not be in action again until Friday, September 27th were they put their undefeated home record on the line against South Brunswick in there 1st Conference test of the Season.
