2014 Mid-Eastern Conference Swimming Championship Meet

Girl’s take 2nd Place while Boys finish in 5th

The Screaming Eagles Boys and Girls Swim Teams were in a action this past Thursday at UNCW when they competed in the Mid-Eastern Conference Championships. The other teams competing in the meet were: New Hanover, Hoggard, Laney, Topsail, West Brunswick and South Brunswick.  The Vikings were the clear favorites in both the guys and the girl’s meets and that’s how they finished up. In the girls race for 2nd Place the Eagles and the Topsail Pirates were neck and neck coming into the final races, in which the Ladies were able to finish a half point ahead in 2nd. While the boys finished in 5th Place. Team Scores were: Girls: 1st Place Hoggard 344, 2nd Ashley 236, 3rd Topsail 235.5, 4th New Hanover 209, 5th South Brunswick 199.5, 6th Laney 150, and 7th West Brunswick 35. Boys: 1st Hoggard 326, 2nd New Hanover 310, 3rd Topsail 239, 4th Laney 179, 5th Ashley 161, 6th West Brunswick 148 and 7th West Brunswick 109.
Top 3 Performences from the Eagles were: GIRLS: The Ladies took 3rd Place in Event 1 the Women’s 200 Yard Medley Relay with a time of 2:05.37. Heather Keck took 2nd Place in Event 7 Women’s 50 Yard Free style with a 26.65. Sydney Westra won a Conference Championship in the Women’s 100 Butterfly with a 1:02.7. Heather Keck finished in 3rd Place in the 100 Free Style with a 58.99 followed by her twin sister in 4th with a 1:02.65. Sydney Westra also finished in 2nd Place in the 100 Yard Breaststroke with a 1:14.03. The Ladies Relay Team made up of Heather and Colleen Keck, Meg Taylor and Sudney Westra took 2nd Place in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay with a 4:03.93.
Sydney Westra will have a full swim schedule at the Swimming and Diving Regional Championship to be held at the Triangle Aquatic Center (TAC)in Raleigh this Saturday. Sydney will swim the 100 breastroke and the 100 butterfly individually. Heather and Colleen Keck, Carmen Westra, Meg Taylor, and Andrea Granato will be joining Sydney in the Medley and  Freestyle Relays. The ladies won't be alone as the the men have qualified for all the relay events as well. Ashley's men will be represented by Nathan Leli, Ryan Trout, Ian Reichow, Alex Pearsall, Andrew Lee and Stephen Wilson.
