Dylan Riley tallied his first goal of the season and Cody Arnoux blasted a thrilling 40-footer to give the Hammerheads an impressive win against the Dayton Dutch Lions Friday at Legion Stadium. The 2-0 win delivered the Hammerheads its 3rd consecutive shutout at Legion Stadium as they still remain unbeaten at home.
The Hammerheads jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 3rd minute as Dylan Riley connected off Corey Hertzog’s throw-in, heading the ball to the back of the net and giving Wilmington an early advantage. Hertzog’s pass was targeted at the left goal post where Riley was waiting and able to angle the ball past Dayton’s goalie, making his first goal a great momentum starter for the Hammerheads. Following Riley’s goal, the Hammerheads didn’t wait long to strike again and increase their lead. Cody Arnoux steals the ball, racing across midfield, and blasts a crowd-silencing goal, maybe the best of the Hammerheads all season. Forty yards outside the box, Arnoux catches the goalie lingering far outside the goal. Taking advantage of the opportunity, Arnoux sends theball soaring through the air into the back left corner of the net, untouched, establishing a 2-0 game where it would sit the remainder of the game.
