UNCW Sports News: ITA RECOGNIZES UNCW WOMEN’S TENNIS TEAM

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW women’s tennis team has earned the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s All-Academic Team Award for the ninth time in the last 11 seasons.
The award covered the 2012-13 campaign and five individuals – Olga Blank (Winnipeg, Canada), Kelly Cameron (Hilton Head Island, S.C.), Hamilton Lovett (Raleigh, N.C), Alyssa Ritchie (Franklin, Ohio) and Angie Sekely (Mississagua, Canada) – landed ITA Scholar-Athlete honors.
“This group spent a tremendous amount of time on academics and this honor is much-deserved,” said Evan Clark, UNCW’s second-year head coach. “There were truly students first. I’ve never seen a group work harder in the classroom, so it’s great to see them rewarded in this way by the ITA.”
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to programs that post a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All eligible student-athletes must compete in one or more varsity matches to count toward the team GPA. ITA Scholar-Athlete winners must be a varsity letter winner, possess a grade point average of at least 3.50 GPA, and be enrolled for at least two semesters.
The Seahawks went 14-7 last year, won four of their last five matches and advanced to the CAA championship match for the first time.
