The 9th Annual Steve Haydu St. Patrick’s Lo Tide Run and After Party are back again in Carolina Beach on March 16, 2013. All proceeds from registration fees, sponsors and individual donors are distributed to recipients selected by the volunteer board of directors to assist local cancer victims in financial need. On March 19, 2005, the first St. Patrick’s Lo-Tide Run was a wonderful success. Unfortunately, Steve lost his battle with cancer in May 2005, but this event lives on his name continuing to provide aid and financial support to area residents battling cancer.
The recipients are New Hanover County residents diagnosed with cancer and are without medical insurance or in financial need. All donations are tax deductible. More than $53,000 was distributed directly to sixteen recipients from the proceeds of last year’s race.
The impact in their lives of getting much needed financial help from their community is worth running for.The 9th annual race would not be possible without the continued support of our amazing sponsors, the growing number of participants and our loyal volunteers. Early race registration is currently open through March 2.
The cost to register early is $30 for the 5K/10K or $25 with a military or student ID. After March 2 the cost to register increases to $35. The course is set to take you around the scenes of Carolina Beachand end right where everyone wants to be…the BEACH.
This race is not just for the fast and furious, we welcome everyone that wants to participate even in wheelchairs, buggies, or golf carts (not timed of course). Register to help those in need in our community. Then after you run, walk, or crawl your course you can keep helping the cause by spending a day at the beach with your cooler enjoying live entertainment at the Boardwalk Beach Stage. The cost of admission is $15 for racers (www.lotiderun.org) or at select sponsor locations, $20 online (www.lotide.eventbrite .com), or $25 on the day of the event. Gates for the After Party will open at 9am and live entertainment will start off for the kids with Lynne and the Wave, then the local soulful tunes of Groove Fetish, and Sucker Punch will be providing the best mix of Rock, Pop, and R&B covers from the 60's through today's music to close out the party. This year outside food and beverages are allowed into the party. So pack up a cooler with any type of beverages and snacks and make a day of it at the beach while supporting a great cause.
$3 Budweiser draft beer and wine products will also be available for purchase. There will be loads of beach activities, a family fun zone, face painting, and food served by local favorites Poor Piggy’s. Want to join in the fun? Want to sponsor? Want to help?
